HSMAI Honors Steve Bartolin and Harris Rosen with Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association (HSMAI) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 HSMAI Lifetime Achievement Awards in marketing and public relations. Harris Rosen, President and CEO, Rosen Hotels & Resorts, will be honored with the Albert E. Koehl Award for Hospitality Marketing. Steve Bartolin, Chairman of The Broadmoor, has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Winthrop W. Grice Award for Public Relations. HSMAI will recognize Rosen and Bartolin at the Adrian Awards Dinner Reception and Gala on January 22, 2019, at the New York Marriott Marquis.

The HSMAI Lifetime Achievement Awards recognize individuals who have spent a major portion of their careers in the hospitality and travel profession and have contributed to the betterment of the industry in a significant and lasting way, over an extended period of time.

Harris RosenAs President and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, Harris Rosen is Florida’s largest independent hotelier. Founded in 1974, Rosen Hotels & Resorts currently features a collection of nine Central Florida hotels providing 6,694 guestrooms—approximately six percent of the Central Florida inventory. Rosen was an innovator and renegade in hotel pricing in Orlando in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He pioneered revenue management and demand-based pricing in a manner that achieved performance premium in a very competitive market. Rosen Hotels & Resorts owns several subsidiaries that create synergy and maximize operational efficiencies, including Millennium Technology Group, a leading provider of quality IT products and telecommunications services for the hospitality industry, and ProvInsure, Rosen’s insurance agency and risk management consulting company.

An impassioned philanthropist, Rosen donated a 20-acre site at the foot of Rosen Shingle Creek and $10 million to the University of Central Florida (UCF) to develop the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Rosen also funds a $2.5 million dollar scholarship endowment for UCF that is matched by the state of Florida and is funding a planned future expansion of the much acclaimed college.

Steve BartolinSteve Bartolin served as President and CEO of The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for 24 years. In 2015, Steve was named Chairman of The Broadmoor and its related businesses which include The Ranch at Emerald Valley, Cloud Camp, Seven Falls, The Broadmoor Fishing Camp, The Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway, and Broadmoor Development Company. With the acquisition of Sea Island Resort, he was named President of the newly formed Broadmoor-Sea Island Company. Under Bartolin’s stewardship, The Broadmoor has been the longest-running consecutive winner of both the prestigious AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Awards. The resort also received numerous awards for exceptional customer service.

Bartolin was named 1997 Resort Executive of the Year and 2005 Colorado Hotelier of the Year, and in 2009, he was inducted into the Colorado Lodging Hall of Fame. He has also been an active member of the AH&LA Resort Committee and played an active role in governmental affairs advocating for the hotel industry.
