Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) has selected Katie Paolino, CHAE as the 2020 Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE®) of the Year. The CHAE of the Year award honors the individual that scored the highest on the CHAE certification exam within a given year.
Paolino is the co-founder of Hotel Solutions, LLC alongside her husband Buck. In this capacity, they provide a robust accounting department for even the smallest portfolios, and over the last 10 years, they have helped hundreds of hoteliers with an outsourced accounting department. “Just this year,” says Paolino, “we created a new company that will offer tools, templates, and digital courses to help hoteliers build their own internal accounting department.
“After working with many CPAs and bookkeepers that were exceptional at accounting but didn't know the hotel industry,” she continues, “it became clear to me that understanding the intricacies of accounting processes specific to the hotel industry is more valuable than any other advanced degree I could get. That is why I sought out the CHAE certification. It is actually something I meant to look into years ago, and if I had, it probably would have helped me connect with and help, a lot more people.”
The CHAE professional designation is an industry designation showing competency in the area of accounting, and is acknowledged throughout the hospitality industry as it elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry. More than 1,500 hospitality accountants, from several countries, have earned the CHAE designation through HFTP since the certification program began in 1981. The CHAE exam, which features a more global finance focus, is now available in an all-in-one online platform powered by Ascend. HFTP also administers the examination and awards the Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP®).
