SAUSALITO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 27, 2002–For nearly a century, Casa Madrona has been a destination landmark hotel in the charming city of Sausalito by the San Francisco Bay. If the walls could talk, they would reveal romances, business ventures, and even political deals made in its historic rooms.
This week, the legendary property, now owned by Olympus Real Estate Partners and managed by RockResorts, unveils its new faces, including a 31-room and suite hotel expansion and new world-class health spa. At the same time, Edward E. Mace, President of RockResorts, announced the appointment of Julie Davis-Petit, an experienced California hotelier, as General Manager and new directors of sales and spa services.
Casa Madrona represents the perfect merger of Sausalito's great traditions and our opportunities for the future, the city's Mayor, J.R. Roberts, said in a proclamation honoring the historic site on the occasion of the opening of its new facilities.
Casa Madrona's Historic Transformation
The Casa Madrona Mansion was originally built in 1885 as the home of William Barrett and is the oldest mansion in Sausalito, listed on the U.S. Historical Register. In 1910, the property was sold and became the Casa Madrona Hotel. After a long and colorful history the property was restored in 1976 to its original elegance with major renovations and the addition of 16 hillside cottages.
Fast-forward to today and the Casa Madrona is celebrating the grand opening of a new expansion that has been two years in the making with major construction and millions of dollars of investment. The new wing of 31 contemporary-styled guest rooms and suites feature sunken Jacuzzi tubs, private balconies overlooking the Sausalito waterfront and warm, residential furnishings. In addition, the hotel has upgraded its existing 34-guest rooms with the addition of new beds, linens, carpeting, furniture, finishes and amenities.
At the heart of the expansion is the grand opening of the Avanyu Spa. The Avanyu Spa is a well-regarded RockResorts product providing world-class body and skin treatments at most of its resorts. Guests and visitors to the Casa Madrona can enjoy this full service day spa that features a manicure/pedicure room, facial room, five massage rooms and a wet treatment room. Phytomer products will be used throughout what is now one of the few full service day spas located in Marin County.
RockResorts is committed to providing the highest quality of services at each of our hotels. We are equally committed to serving the communities where we do business. Corporate citizenship and support for a community like Sausalito is not done out of obligation but by desire. We will provide dollars and deeds as good neighbors, RockResorts Vice President, Herbert Spiegel, told a gathering of Sausalito city officials and prominent residents who previewed the expansion that officially opened Saturday, June 15th. Among those in attendance were: City Manager Dana Whitson; Police Chief Joseph Kreins; City Councilman Paul Albritton; civic and business leaders Donald Munro, Mr. and Mrs. Geoffrey James and KRON/KCBS broadcast personality Jan Wahl.
New Faces of Casa Madrona's Management Team
Along with the new additions at Casa Madrona is the appointment of key managers for the facility. Julie Davis-Petit has joined as General Manager, Jenny Toomer as Director of Sales and Sharon Holtz as Director of the Avanyu Spa.
