Calvià, Mallorca Announced as Destination for ABTA’s 2025 Travel Convention

The Travel Association has announced that Calvià, Mallorca will be the destination for next year’s ABTA Travel Convention, which will take place from 6-8 October 2025.

Located in southwestern Mallorca between the Tramuntana Mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea, the region of Calvià has seen significant investment over the past decade, including the ongoing and comprehensive redevelopment of the seafront at Magaluf.

Delegates will stay at the recently renovated Meliá Calvià Beach hotel and the neighbouring Meliá South Beach hotel, two ultra-modern properties offering à la carte seafront dining, a range of outdoor pools, a YHI Spa and gym and first-class conference facilities for the business sessions.

The nearest airport is Palma International Airport, which is served by flights from most regional airports in the UK in October and just a 30-minute transfer from next year’s venue. Registration is due to open in spring next year.

The host partner is Calvià Tourist Board, supported by Turespaña.

The announcement was made today in Costa Navarino, Greece at the end of a highly successful 2024 Travel Convention.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive, said:

“I am delighted that we will be returning to Mallorca for the 2025 Travel Convention. With its rich and evolving tourism offering and high popularity among UK holidaymakers, Mallorca is an incredibly important destination for the UK travel trade. For this reason, it’s the only destination to have hosted ABTA’s Travel Convention in every decade since the 1970s.

“This will be our first time hosted by Calvià, however, after a very impressive bid from the Calvià Tourist Board highlighting the exciting transformation of the region over the past decade. I’m looking forward to showcasing this outstanding venue to our delegates next year and would like to thank the hosts for welcoming us once again.”

Juan Antonio Amengual, major of Calvià, expressed his delight at the opportunity to host the ABTA Convention in 2025. Amengual remarked that it is a great honour for Calvià to host a congress that will once again highlight the area’s repositioning and transformation, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the administration, hoteliers, and the complementary offer in recent years.

“We look forward to welcoming ABTA delegates with open arms and showcasing why Calvià is a leading destination in the Mediterranean,” emphasized Juan Antonio Amengual.

The Mallorca Tourism Councilor, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, expressed his satisfaction upon learning of ABTA’s decision and stated that “it represents a boost to the policies promoted by the Mallorca Council in favour of responsible tourism.”

He added, “Responsible tourism is more than just a goal; it is the horizon we set to ensure the coexistence of tourists and residents. We must work to raise awareness of the need for civic behaviour for the sake of coexistence and mutual respect, and events like the one ABTA will hold in Mallorca next year will greatly help us achieve this goal.”
