A German hotel, The Zipper Hotel & Apartments in Düsseldorf, has revealed how it efficiently manages its 168-room property with a significantly leaner team than typically required, attributing this feat to the innovative use of a tech platform.

Launched in November 2023, the hotel operates with a mere six-member staff, about 80% smaller than that typically required for a hotel of its magnitude. The Zipper credits its innovative employee and guest experience tool, Like Magic, for its streamlined operations and lean team structure, demonstrating a high level of efficiency in hotel management.

Like Magic’s comprehensive platform, which allows staff members to perform 80% of their daily tasks from a single system, this disruptive technology also allows guests to carry out various tasks without staff intervention, such as checking in, ordering food, requesting additional amenities, and creating keyless room passes via their smartphones.

Commenting on the hotel’s successful operation, Otto Konstantin Lindner, co-founder and managing director at The Zipper Hotel & Apartments, said, “Without Like Magic, we wouldn’t have achieved what we have at The Zipper. The platform has enabled us to build a small, effective team that shares our passion.” Lindner also noted how the platform’s efficiency has given the team more time to focus on enhancing the guest experience.

The tech platform has also expedited the staff onboarding process, with comprehensive training completed in just a day and a half. Despite the lean team, The Zipper has garnered positive feedback from guests, with a 4.6 rating on Google and an 8.8 rating on Booking.com.

Like Magic’s platform consolidates a booking engine, guest platform, employee interface, and monitoring tools into one centralized system, creating a comprehensive operational hub for hotel management.
