Gas, Food, Lodging: Choice Hotels International to Offer Free Fuel, Free McDonald's Extra Value Meal to Guests This Summer

SILVER SPRING, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 9, 2002–Travelers who stay at one of 2,400 midscale hotels franchised by Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH) throughout the U.S. this summer will not only get a good night's sleep – they'll also get $5 in free fuel(a) and a free McDonald's Extra Value Meal(R)(b).
Guests at Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Clarion, Quality, Sleep Inn and MainStay Suites brand hotels who stay a minimum of two consecutive nights at a discounted Summer Fun rate will receive upon checkout a complimentary $5 fuel card redeemable at participating major gas stations nationwide and a coupon good for one of four selected McDonald's Extra Value Meals.
The promotion launches June 14 and is good while supplies last. Travelers must mention the Summer Fun rate when making reservations via www.choicehotels.com, by calling 1-800-4-CHOICE and when booking through travel agents.
By the promotion's end, Choice expects to have given away more than $4.5 million in free food and fuel, according to Wayne Wielgus, senior vice president, marketing.
Check in, stay two nights, check out – and you get free fuel and a free McDonald's Extra Value Meal, said Wielgus. It's that simple. No coupons to cut out, no rebates to apply for – just immediate, on-the-spot rewards at checkout for choosing one of our brands.
We're particularly proud to be the first major lodging chain to partner with McDonald's on a summer promotion, Wielgus continued. Combine the world's #1 foodservice brand with some of the best known lodging brands in the world – and throw in $5 in free fuel, of particular value as gas prices are going up – and you have a triple win for guests staying with us this summer.
Choice's Summer Fun promotion will be supported by a broadcast, print and online advertising campaign, all incorporating the company's The Power of Being There. Go marketing message. In keeping with our marketing strategy, this summer's promotion ties directly to the power of the travel experience, Wielgus explained. Our advertisements will emphasize how the 'Summer Fun' promotion contributes to the overall adventure of travel – the Power of Being There.
Television ads are scheduled to break June 6 on high profile network and cable programming. Ads will feature images of families on the road and having fun, with a voiceover outlining the Summer Fun promotion.
