In an aggressive move, the Best Inns & Suites brand is expected to increase development to grow the chain by 20 percent by mid-year. U.S. Franchise Systems, Inc. (USFS), franchisor of the Best mid-priced hotel brand, has put the muscle of the company behind streamlining the conversion process to enable hotels to more quickly benefit from being a member of a franchise system.
Our goal is to enable hotels to benefit from the recognition of a nationwide brand, technology and marketing as soon as possible, says Mike Leven, ceo and president of USFS. In today's economy, it is more important than ever to facilitate the conversion process quickly to ensure that hotels receive the support they need to be successful before they are in financial trouble.
The shortened conversion time can be attributed to a modification in the property improvement process so that the franchisee does not have to complete unnecessary upgrades to the hotel to enter the system. Additionally, USFS has prioritized the growth of the Best system in an effort to assist struggling independent hotels in maintaining profitability during a time of some of the slowest economic growth the industry has seen.
Today, hotels cannot afford to be without a well-known name in front of their property, says Leven. The Best brand offers the support and recognition that only a franchise system can provide, with lower franchise fees than most in the industry.
Since the first of the year, seven hotels have raised the Best flag with an additional 14 properties slated to open by the end of second quarter. Recently opened Best properties include hotels in Fresno, San Francisco/Lombard and San Francisco/Van Ness, CA; New Florence, MO; Jackson/Flowood and Vickburg, MS and Winston Salem, NC. There are currently 131 Best branded hotels open in North America.
