BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Nov. 9, 2000 — David Michels, group chief executive, Hilton Group plc, has been elected to the board of directors of Hilton Hotels Corp. (NYSE:HLT), it was announced today.

Michels, 53, was appointed group chief executive of the London-based lodging and gaming company in June 2000, after serving as chief executive of Hilton Group's hotel subsidiary — Hilton International — since April 1999.

He has served on the board of directors of Hilton Group plc since March 1999. Michels had been, since 1991, chief executive of Stakis plc, one of Europe's leading hotel companies. Stakis was acquired by Hilton Group in March 1999.

In 1981 he joined Ladbroke Group PLC (the former name of Hilton Group plc) as sales and marketing directors of Ladbroke Hotels, becoming managing director of Ladbrokes' Leisure Division in 1983 and managing director of Ladbroke Hotels in 1985.

In 1987, following its acquisition by Ladbroke Group, he became senior vice president of sales and marketing for Hilton International, and in 1989 was named deputy chairman of Hilton UK and executive vice president, Hilton International.

Michels also is a non-executive director of Arcadia Group plc, the Scottish Tourist Board and is chairman of the British Hospitality Association Council.

We are delighted to welcome David Michels to our company's board, and look forward to his insights and what we know will be valuable contributions, said Barron Hilton, chairman of Hilton Hotels Corp.

Having worked closely with David on ensuring the continued success and strength of the global alliance between our two companies, I am familiar with his broad knowledge of the worldwide hotel business, and know that he will be a tremendous addition to our board, said Stephen F. Bollenbach, president and chief executive officer of Hilton Hotels Corp.
