Marriott Expands Presence in Greater Shanghai Region

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) will offer travelers to the greater Shanghai region a choice of accommodations in 15 hotels by the end of 2009 with the opening of the 330-room JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou and the 330-room Courtyard by Marriott Hangzhou City Center in 2008.

Both hotels are entering Marriott's portfolio under a management agreement with Hangzhou Wulin Real Estate Co., Ltd. They will be part of an 80,000-square-meter complex located in the heart of the city's central business district. The hotels will be connected by a palladium that will house conference space, restaurants and lounges, and other public facilities.

Hangzhou is an attractive business and leisure destination. In addition to Hangzhou's dynamic business environment, the city is a well-known weekend getaway and vacation-home destination for residents in the Greater Shanghai Region. The city features 11 major tourist attractions, including the famous West Lake. Rich in history, culture and natural resources, the city is one of China's top leisure destinations for both domestic and international tourists.

'We are excited by these two hotels and the vigorous pace of our growth in China,' said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging for Marriott. 'Together, these two hotels will be the first internationally managed properties in the Wulin District and will offer travelers the flexibility of choosing accommodation options at different price points in the same complex. By being able to appeal to a diverse customer base, we have no doubt that our award-winning JW Marriott brand and our highly-acclaimed Courtyard brand will be instant successes in the city.'

JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou

JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts is Marriott's global luxury hotel brand. It is a collection of distinctive, award-winning hotels that offer a unique combination of relaxed elegance, authenticity, luxurious environments and gracious personalized services. Guest rooms in JW Marriott hotels are often larger than those in other hotels in its category and feature baths with separate shower and tub.

For dining and entertainment, the JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou will offer a variety of options, including a casual, all-day restaurant; a Chinese restaurant with 10 private dining rooms; a specialty restaurant with three private dining rooms; and a lobby lounge and entertainment bar.

Recreational amenities will be highlighted by an indoor swimming pool, a spa with eight treatment rooms and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Other amenities will include a gift shop, a business center, a concierge desk and a spacious executive lounge with a private conference room.

For social events and conferences, the hotel will have 1,650 square meters of function space, including a 950-square-meter ballroom that will be divisible into three sections and eight additional meeting rooms in varying configurations.

Courtyard by Marriott Hangzhou City Center

Courtyard by Marriott hotels are meant for business and leisure travelers in the upper moderate hotel segment who value consistent, high-quality accommodations and services. With more than 700 hotels in 25 countries, Courtyard is Marriott's largest brand. Key to Courtyard's global success is that the hotel is locally relevant and offers the services and amenities preferred by travelers in its local region. However, wherever it is located, all Courtyard hotels are renowned for their large guest rooms that offer a separate seating area, a spacious work desk with bright lighting, dataport and high-speed internet access; and in-room coffee maker. Courtyard lobbies evoke residential space, providing a residential feeling of scale and an ambience that is casual, allowing guests to feel relaxed, comfortable and welcome.

Among amenities to be offered by the Courtyard by Marriott Hangzhou City Center will be an executive floor and lounge, a business center and a gift shop. Guests of the Courtyard will have access to the JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou's meeting space, restaurants and lounges, health club and spa.
