Opus Montreal is a unique, boutique hotel blending contemporary style and design with a nod to the historic. The original avant-garde structure, built in 1914 by Joseph-Arthur Godin, was created in an Art Nouveau style. The simplicity of the original design is complimented by its unabashedly modern concrete addition, created by architect Dan Hanganu of Montreal and interior designer Yabu Pushelberg of New York, winner of the prestigious 'Platinum Circle Award'. Located in downtown Montreal on the corner of Sherbrooke Street and St. Laurent Boulevard, Opus Montreal is just steps away from a vibrant entertainment, restaurant and bar scene and a stroll from both Old Montreal and Plateau Mont-Royal.
Within a few short months, Opus Montreal will be transformed into an urban retreat, epitomizing the 'new luxury,' and incorporating distinguishing elements of the Opus brand that have made it successful in the marketplace.
Each of the 136 luxurious rooms will be updated to bring a sense of freshness and light to the existing sleek minimalism. Opus Vancouver's designer, Robert Bailey will infuse colour, accent pieces and art work throughout the hotel that will be a joyful reflection of the multicultural sophistication of Montreal.
Scheduled to open to the public at the end of September 2007, is Opus Montreal's contemporary and whimsical lounge. The Yabu-Pushelberg design includes dramatic glowing light-strip paneling, a stylish mezzanine, steel sculptures by artist Scott Eunson and a 30 foot Cardosa marble bar. Certain to appeal to seasoned travelers and discerning local clientele alike, its heated outdoor terrace will be a three-season venue while the indoor space will be a sought-after year round destination. Offering innovative cocktails, a globally-inspired tapas menu and the city's hottest DJ's, the lounge sure to capture the same 'hot' energy and 'cool' vibe combination as its Vancouver counterpart.
Complimenting the soon-to-open lounge will be the arrival of the 9000 square foot food and beverage outlet fronting Sherbrooke Street. With its concept and identity under tight wraps, Montreal awaits with eager anticipation the unveiling of this space in spring 2008.
