Brazil: More Flexible Labor Rules for Tourism-related Companies to Hire During the World Cup and Rio Olympic Games

It has been recently announced by the Brazilian Government that it will authorize the tourism sector (hotels, inns, hostels, bars and restaurants) to hire workers without registration on their work card, during the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics events.

It has been recently announced by the Brazilian Government that it will authorize the tourism sector (hotels, inns, hostels, bars and restaurants) to hire workers without registration on their work card, during the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics events. Also, the government measure should be valid in periods of peak season. The temporary admissions should be done for 14 consecutive days tops or 60 intermittent days a year.
Currently, temporary employment demands annotation on the work card and it is valid for 90 days. Instead of the registration of the employment relationship into the work card, both parties will sign an employment contract, which will allow the employers to pay labor rights – such as vacations, 13th salary and social security – in proportion to the worked days.
The new form of hiring will be created by means of a Provisional Measure, which will alter the Brazilian Labor Relations Code. The Provisional Measure will be sent to the Civilian Household.
