niu, the new brand of the NOVUM Hotel Group, is expanding, and its next strategic site in Europe will be Vienna. In December 2018, the group will be opening a brand new 159-room hotel, developed by the Bridge Group, at Dresdner Str. 111.
From the soaring St. Stephen’s Cathedral to the imperial magnificence of the Hofburg palace and Schloss Schönbrunn, this great city on the Danube is famous for its historic architecture. Even today, its baroque feel is preserved in numerous hotels. And that baroque feel will be just as evident in the niu Franz hotel, located between the Augarten park and the Danube.
Each niu hotel tells a story based on the uniqueness of its location, and the niu Franz is no different. Like the traditional hotels oozing old Viennese charm, the niu Franz reflects the heyday of imperial Vienna. But when it comes to comfort and design, it’s clearly a hotel for generations Y and Z. From the living lobby to the co-working space, old meets new as Kaiser-cool antique furniture, old- fashioned tailor’s dummies and modern pictures of Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Sissi all come together in a cool, contemporary setting fitted out with the latest technology. A great place to meet for the young and young-at-heart (even its name, when spoken in German, sounds like the English word ‘friends’), the niu Franz also offers traditional Viennese food and drink such as the famous kaiserschmarrn, or sugared pancake, all sourced from local suppliers.
The millennial brand currently has over thirty hotels in development. Following on from the Haarlem in Holland, the niu Franz is the second European hotel outside Germany, and more are set to follow in Switzerland, Hungary and the UK. As chief executive and business owner David Etmenan explains, ‘Thanks to our strategic partnerships, we’ve been successful in implementing dynamic growth.’
